By Doctor Monroe
I'm a friend of John the Physician; he made an appointment with me for March 4, 1892 to talk about his sickly wife. He told me that she wasn't physicially ill but she was mentally. He told me that he knew something was wrong with her but whenever his wife said something was wrong, he always assured her that she was fine. He didn't want his wife to worry about her health so he came alone. One day he found a journal that she wrote her past days in and brought it to me to read. In her journal it talked about the house they moved in but more specifically...the large room she slept in. She describes the rooms' peculiar yellow wallpaper with a strange pattern all over it. The majority of the journal talked about this wallpaper but other details she expressed was the way she cried when she was alone, her nervous weakness, the fatigue she had during the days and restlessness during the nights. It also says, written in bold letters, "it does not do to trust in people to much." The sick lady also writes about her hallucinations and delusions she has about the wallpaper, such as that there is a lady behind the it crawling, moving, and shaking the wallpaper, trying to escape. I did a lot of research from the records in the journal, to all the stories John told me about. For months, John and I met up to discuss my findings. I finally finished my research and my conclusion for his wife was that she was suffering from major depression. I came up with his because she seems to have very sad feelings almost everyday, has lost weight due to not eating, has lost interest in activities, sleeps too little, feelings of being tired and weak, feelings of irritability towards others and has hallucinations and delusions. Her depression is the reason she has a sense that she is sick but John didn't understand because it was a problem she was facing within herself.

Case Study 2-7-13
Case Study
"The Misfit": MALE, AGE:46
Background History:
The Misfit has 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
He was raised by his mother and father.
Worked in the arm service.
Married twice.
Serves sentencing in the penitentiary.
Unemployed.
As I met with The Misfit, I noticed that he was very nervous and had a high sense of paranoia. First, I asked him what was his full name but he told me he rather not let me know and to just call him "The Misfit." He told me about his childhood and expressed to me that he was a good but different child. As he had gotten older he says "but somewheres along the line I done something wrong and got sent to the penitentiary." He told me that he didn't remember what happened or why he was sent there. I started to question his two marrying's and asked him, "why did they end?" He told me that there were just too many problems. I was very skeptical about it but I proceded with further questions. I also touched on subjects about things that made him angry. He named multiple things but he said that the worst thing of all was "folks trying to control me." Which made me think that it could be the reasons for his divorces and for the murder of his father, as that could have been the reason he killed him, if he did kill him.
My diagnosis for The Misfit is hat he has severe bipolar disorder, he suffers from manic episodes and depression where he has unrealistic beliefs, behaves impulsively and goes on killing sprees because it is pleasurable for him. I noticed that he talks very slow and calmly. The Misfit also had problems concentrating and remembering things when I asked him to tell me about his childhood and why he served time in prison. He has gone a long time without being treated for this disorder and this is why it is now so severe.
The Misfit should be placed in a Mental Hospital inside of a prison and take medication until he learns to cope with his bipolar episodes. He needs to meet with a therapist daily, so that they can check his progress.
